Sahara 99578 Ordinary Chondrite 1470g Main Mass with Polished Window

This one is called Sahara 99578.  Long ago, before the Meteoritical Bulletin existed, there wasn't a classification system for meteorites.  During the mid-to-late 1990s, the Labenne family (Marc and his sons Jim and Luc) would hunt the Sahara Desert in Northwest Africa.  With each meteorite they found, they painted a field number on it which was their way of cataloguing each one.  This one has 99578 painted on it.  It means it was found in 1999 and it's the 578th meteorite they found on that year's expedition.  This is definitely a beautiful piece of meteorite history that has been preserved and is looking for a new collection to call home.

The weight of this piece is 1470 grams.
