NWA 869 Ordinary Chondrite L3-6 Meteorite 36.4g
NWA 869 Ordinary Chondrite L3-6 Meteorite 36.4g
NWA 869 is one of the most beautiful meteorites to cut and polish. It has a stunning matrix that often has armored chondrules throughout each piece. NWA 869 has a very unusual classification, L 3-6, meaning it shows characteristics of different meteorite types within the same mass. It's as if a bunch of different kinds of meteors smashed into each other somewhere in outer space, sending this massive rock on a collision course with Earth and landing in the Sahara. This is why NWA 869 is classified as brecciated as well. Breccia is a rock made up of fragments of other rocks that have been compressed or cemented together. This meteorite was found back in the year 2000. The hunters in Northwest Africa discovered a large L chondrite strewn field at an undisclosed location. Over 2 tons have been found over the years, making this particular meteorite not only beautiful but affordable as well!
The weight of this piece is 36.4 grams.
