Lueders Silicate Iron (IAB) Meteorite Slice - 49.9g - Texas, USA
This beautiful meteorite is Lueders. It was found in Shackelford County, Texas, in 1973. I have not been able to find any information as to who first discovered this meteorite or the story of how they found it. It was not recognized as a meteorite until 1993. This was a single stone find weighing 35.4 kilos. There really isn't much of this material anywhere. Anytime a piece does come up for sale, it never lasts long. Lueders has been classified as an IAB iron meteorite but due to a slightly higher copper content, it has been designated as an anomalous member of that group. Lueders is also a silicated iron, meaning there are stony inclusions all throughout it. A variety of processes such as fragmentation and partial melting appear to have played a very significant role in the formation of this meteorite.
I acquired this piece recently after buying up the Greg Hupe Collection from Mr. Hupe himself. I'm not sure where he got this piece from, but it does have documentation from The Reves Collection which is signed by Mr. Reves. I will include my own COA card to give you that provenance as well. It comes in a glass top Riker box.
