Indian Butte is another meteorite that has a good story.  A large fireball was witnessed over Arizona June 7th, 1998.  Experts guessed that it ended near Casa Grande.  The name of this fireball would stick for about 15 years.  At the time, Doppler radar wasn't used to help find meteorites.  Without this wonderful tool, trying to hunt a fresh fall is like looking for a needle in a haystack.  It wasn't until about 2013 that the first piece was recovered by hunters.  PSI Senior Scientist Marc Fries and also and Robert Matson used Doppler weather radar data as well as eyewitness reports to triangulate the possible strewn field from the 1998 fireball.  Their efforts paid off!  Shortly after the new information became available, three hunters working together recovered the first piece.  Soon others came to hunt it and more pieces were recovered.  As it stands right now, only 1,721 grams of material were found.

The weight of this piece is 75.1 grams.

The measurements are about 48x38x35mm.
