Hassi el Biod 002 Polished Slice 103.2 grams RARE Ungrouped Pallasite

Hassi el Biod 002 is one of my favorite pallasites because it is unlike any other that has been found to this day!  It was found in Algeria in 2021.  Five stones were found together with a total weight of 10 kilos.  This is a unique pallasite type both in terms of olivine composition and oxygen isotopes.  Along with Milton, which is a Missouri meteorite, Hassi el Biod 002 is the only other ungrouped that is not a pyroxene pallasite, however Milton and this meteorite are not paired and do not have olivine compositions and oxygen isotopes that are similar.

Pallasites are not common; they compose only 1.8% of all known meteorites. It has been proposed that pallasites represents the interface between the stone mantle and the metal core of differentiated asteroids.

The weight of this piece is 103.2 grams.

The measurements are about 136x92x3mm.
