Murchison is one of the most sought-after meteorites on the market today.  It's also one of the most studied meteorites in history.  One reason for this is because scientists found around 70 amino acids as well as water molecules within this meteorite.  In January of 2020, cosmochemists reported that the oldest material found on Earth to this day are the silicon carbide particles from the Murchison meteorite.  Those have been determined to be 7 billion years old which is about 2.5 billion years older than the age of our Earth and the solar system.  September 28th, 1969, at around 10:45am, a fireball was seen. It broke into three pieces before it disappeared.  After that, a cloud of smoke was seen and 30 seconds later a tremor was felt.  This happened near Murchison, Victoria in the county of Australia.

This fragment came from the 27.64-gram piece owned by the Australian Museum in Sydney.  It also comes with their paperwork (information card and certificate of authenticity) proving where it came from.

The weight of this piece is .39 grams.

The measurements are about 9x7x5mm.
