Czech Republic Moldavite 3.56g Individual Impact Glass

This is a beautiful piece of Moldavite from Czech Republic.  It is 100% real, natural Moldavite.  Moldavite is only found in the Czech Republic.  There are many fakes out there and due to the extremely high cost of Moldavite, there are many people trying to manufacture it out of green glass.  I always tell my customers if they have any doubt, take it to a certified jeweler (not a geologist) because Moldavite is a gemstone.  Any certified gemologist will be able to tell you if it's real or not.  Moldavite has become very hard to get.  There are only a few families/companies that supply the entire world.  However, over the last few years it has been very hard to get.  They have been mining it for years and it's finally running out.  Some of the areas where they know there's more are now protected by the government, making it illegal to harvest.

Moldavite falls into the impact glass and tektite category.  Moldavite (also called Bouteille Stone or vltavin) is a natural glass that is thought to have formed in the heat of an asteroid impact. This event occurred about 15 million years ago, and a splatter of hot glass formed a strewn field across central Europe.  It's similar to how Libyan desert glass formed.  The reason Moldavite is green is because of the minerals in the ground where it hit.   There are many theories about the formation of it.  Some people even believe that the green stone in the holy grail was actually Moldavite and not emerald.  It's a fun theory, one that we cannot prove unless the holy grail is found.
