Holbrook Crusted Meteorite Fragment Navajo County, Arizona Witnessed Fall - 8.4g
The Holbrook Meteorite is a witnessed fall that landed in Arizona about 111 years ago from today (2023). At 7:15pm on the evening of 19th July 1912, a bright fireball appeared in the sky above Navajo County, Arizona. There were several loud detonations, approximately 16,000 mostly pea-sized stones fell near the Arntz siding of the Santa Fe Railroad, 7 miles from the town of Holbrook. I have hunted the strewn field myself several times and was able to recover a few small pieces for my own collection. You can still find tiny fragments and pea sized pieces today but it's not easy. Due to this being a witnessed fall, it has been hunted from the day it hit and it's still hunted today. This piece once belonged to the Kansas Meteorite Society. You will receive their COA as well as mine, along with the Riker box.
The weight of this piece is 8.4 grams.
