This is a beautiful complete slice of Imilac. It's loaded with transparent crystals and looks amazing when backlit! It is polished and etched on both sides. This is a very stable pallasite with no rust. Imilac meteorites were discovered in 1822 by the Indian Jose Maria Chalie at the western end of the Salar de Imilac in a remote part of the high desert. Small Imilac meteorites were offered by the finder to British Museums and subsequently aroused the interest of scientists. Due to its beauty and stability, it's one of the most sought after pallasites for collectors.
Pallasites are not common; they compose only 1.8% of all known meteorites. It has been proposed that pallasites represent the interface between the stone mantle and the metal core of differentiated asteroids.
